Privacy Policy

What’s this all about?

This page is intended to let you know what personal information I collect about you, why I collect it, what I will do with it, and how you can choose how I use it.

Privacy is very important to me, and so I take your privacy seriously too. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have any of your information at all. But sometimes I need to use your information, and this sets out exactly what information I’ll ask you for and how I’ll use it.

If you ever feel uncomfortable with the way I’m using your information, please tell me. I never want you to feel uncomfortable.

Affiliate links

If I’m writing about a particular item or product (such as a book), I’ll often post a link that will enable you to buy that product from a book vendor. If you look closely at the link, you’ll notice that there’s some extra text in there; if you go on to buy that product, that text lets the vendor know that you came from my website, and I’ll be awarded a small percentage of the sale. The amounts we’re talking about are very small, but every little helps support my writing and helps me create new novels for you to enjoy.

I cannot identify you when you use affiliate links; the vendor only tells me that someone bought a product from them. Using any of my affiliate links will not result in me acquiring any personal information about you.

You will be given the option to opt-in to the use of these cookies when you visit my site. You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the link below:

Comments on this site

When leaving a comment on a page on this website, you will be asked for

  • your name, which will be used to identify you within the discussion;
  • your email address, which helps prevent spam as well as allowing you to use services like Gravatar to show a photo next to the comment;
  • your website URL, which is optional.

This information will be used by the spam filter I have installed, Askimet, to help prevent my site from being flooded by spam. It will also be stored within my site’s database in order to keep your comment on display. I will never share the information you provide when posting a comment, nor will I use it to contact you. You have the right to request that I remove this information from my database and delete the comment; if you would like to make such a request, please contact me.

Portfolio requests

When you request a copy of my portfolio, I ask you for:

  • your first and last name, so I know what to call you;
  • your company name, so I know where you work;
  • your email address, so I know where to send the email.

This information will be stored within HubSpot, in accordance with their privacy policy.

If you would like your data to be removed, please contact me.

Data sharing

I do not share your information with any third parties other than those already mentioned.

When you sign up to my mailing list, you do so using a form hosted by HubSpot. This means that HubSpot holds the information on my behalf. If you object to this, you must let me know that you would like me to delete the data held by HubSpot.

Data retention

If you have posted a comment on this website, I will retain the information you provided in order to maintain that comment’s presence on the site.

If you have requested my portfolio, I will retain the information you provided to help me understand my business (and to prevent me embarrassing myself!)

You have the right to erasure (also known as the right to be forgotten), which means you can ask me to erase your data at any time and I must do so within a month. If you wish to exercise this right, please contact me.

The principles behind using your information

  • I will only use your information with your explicit consent.
  • You can provide or withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Your privacy is important to me, and it will always be the most important consideration when I use your information.
  • The only times I will use your information without your consent is if I have a legal or contractual obligation to do so.

Once again, if you have any questions, or if you ever feel uncomfortable with the way I’m using your information, please tell me.
